YES OR NO

Acrophobia is defined as a fear of heights. I have a fear of heights. There are a lot of people that share this phobia.

I wasn't always plagued with this fear. I was raised on a farm so there were lots of times when I was up off the ground like climbing in the cherry tree (instead of weeding the garden) and playing in the hay loft (waiting for my brothers to find me). There was a time shortly after I got married when Chuck and I repelled off the top of a grain elevator in rural Missouri as there were no cliffs or mountains close at hand. This fear seemed to come into the picture after I had children. I found that NOW I could only venture half-way up a STEP ladder!! And I remember having dreams of being stuck at the top and not being able to move - up OR down.

So, why in the world am I bringing this up now?

Chuck and I will be leaving in a few days for a much needed vacation to Fort Myers Beach, Florida!! No work! No deadlines! No demands! But, lots of sun, sand, and surf!!! We will be spending quality time with our son, Brian, his wife, Lauren, and our grandson, Tyler. Oh, and perhaps add the computer to the quality time...hope to get more writing finished.

One of the activities that we plan is another dolphin tour on a wave runner. (Let me stop here for a minute to let you in on something....IF my husband dumps me AGAIN into the GULF OF MEXICO while driving a wave runner....I WILL be getting a DIVORCE!!) The other is to have the males (Chuck, Brian, and Tyler) have the opportunity to go parasailing. We've been talking about it for the last few times we've gone down there but haven't done it. Or, I should say, THEY haven't done it yet.

See how far OFF THE GROUND THEY ARE??? (gulp)

I really can't believe that I'm even THINKING about this!! SHOULD I DO IT OR NOT? There, I said it for the world to read. Okay, maybe not the WHOLE world but my Angels and friends.

There is only ONE reason for me to even begin to contemplate going up in the air with just a harness around me, supported by a parachute type sail being lead by a tow rope connected to a boat several feet below me with my feet dangling in the air all the time keeping in mind my fear of heights and my fingers gripping the harness in a death grip!!

Can anyone think of a good reason?

Well, I can. IF, keep in mind I'm saying a HUGE IF here, I were to do it, than I would be able to write more accurately about what it must be like to be a Dragon Rider! Sure, I could quiz the guys, asking silly questions and hope they could describe it well enough for me to write about it, but what are the odds of that happening? However, if I were to be the one up there, well...the sky's the limit! Okay...bad pun but you understand what I mean.

So, the question remains:

YES - go for it
NO - we don't want our Queen to pass out and die

Please post your comments. Remember, I leave on Friday so don't post if it is the year 2012!!

  1. dont want our Queen to die, but that should be quite the experience. I say go for it, you can do it. :)

My son did a parachute jump with his mother and they had fun.

  3. This is a test to see if we can find out why comments are not being posted. Should I take this as a sign that I am NOT to do this? Hmmmm

  4. Part of me says go for it; it may turn out far better than you thought. And you defeat a fear. Part of me says no it's not worth it; it may turn out worse than you feared. And the fear may defeat you. So with that fence-sitting advice, I would just say do what you feel comfortable doing or not doing. You know I'll support whatever decision you make.
